While her youngest daughter receives medical care only available in the United States, Rosa must stay in Mexico. But even as she is separated from her own family, the mother of three has thrown herself into helping other migrants and asylum seekers as the manager of the International Rescue Committee-supported triage hotel in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico.

The former hotel, now shelter, was created in order to ensure asylum seekers and migrants could properly quarantine during the COVID-19 pandemic. Today, Rosa and her team work tirelessly to ensure asylum seekers and migrants like her receive the support they need to continue their journey and stay safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“One day I said to God, ‘You made me a mother and you took away my children.” Rosa says. “And he answered, ‘I’m taking care of yours, you take care of mine.’”
